Feature Edition #4 - March 2007: Jim Winkens - Featured Artist Interview
Richard Box:
Tell everybody a bit about yourself
Jim Winkens:
My name is Jim and I'm from the Netherlands. I specify myself in macro-abstract-nature photographs. In 2006 I started photographing for the hell of it and have been shooting ever since.Richard Box:
So how do you feel about being the featured artist for Codrv Feature #4 - March 2007?
Jim Winkens:
Well Richard, I'm very very honoured to be the featured artist of such a fresh community. This might sound a bit corny, but fuck that.Richard Box:
So what were some of the initial influences on your photography?Jim Winkens:
Digital art has been a great influence for me. I've been very bored of abstract digital art scenes and thought abstract art could be executed on a different way : photos!Richard Box:
All your work has very simular colours that help to achieve a certain dirty feel about your work, what inspired this colour scheme?Jim Winkens:
Most artists give deep reasons for their work, which I don't really believe in. Long experiment sessions resulted in this dirty scheme. Sorry, no romantic story here.Richard Box:
Codrv pack #2 - December 2006 features a piece titled Mistero, this piece seems slightly different from your normal style, what was the idea behind the change?
Jim Winkens:
Glad you saw the subtle difference. I wanted to give my style a bit of a concrete element. Simply said, you can see the nature objects better. The colour scheme is also a bit different, to give it a more natural feeling. It didn't mix with my gallery, so I didn't publish it. I did however give it out to certain sites, like Codrv.Richard Box:
Where do you place value in art?Jim Winkens:
The amount of work that has been put into a piece.
Richard Box:
In codrv pack #4 - February 2007 you showcased a shot titled Oro, what do you feel this piece describes?Jim Winkens:
A morphine using-mineworker thinks he's found gold, but it's all fake. There is no gold. It reflects the situation in the world a bit, don't you think?Richard Box:
Haha yeah, can you please breifly describe your normal creative process when on a photoshoot and afterwards when retouching your shots?Jim Winkens:
I do not want to give away all my techniques, but I guess I can tell about it briefly. Creating composition > Finding a good angle > Shooting > Exporting > Clearing > Adjusting Something like that, it's not always the same.Richard Box:
Do you have any future plans to continue with photography as a career?Jim Winkens:
I'd love to do this as a career. No plans yet, though. Let's see what the future brings. :)Richard Box:
Have you got any final messages or shoutouts?Jim Winkens:
Keep it thrill! haha.
