Richard Box:
Tell everybody a bit about yourselfJak Hornblow:
I don't like clubs, Haha. I spend too much money on things I throw away. I'm excited about this summer. I'm English.Richard Box:
So where did your art start?Jak Hornblow:
When I was younger I was given some pencils and paper when my mum was on the phone.
Richard Box:
All of your digital artwork takes a very unique stance on art, and can be quite provocative. Where do draw inspiration for these ideas?Jak Hornblow:
Mainly from things that I think I'd enjoy to see, but haven't yet. I prefer trying out new things rather than doing stuff I know I can do, I think.
Richard Box:
Codrv pack #1 - December 2006 features a piece titled domination, what was your motivation behind this piece?Jak Hornblow:
I was doodling in my Politics class and we were discussing socialism. Lenin comes across as a bit of a propaganda monster to me and that picture's my response.Richard Box:
Out of all your styles, which is your preferred?Jak Hornblow:
I don't really have one... I like the more simple stuff with a lot of negative space a lot.
Richard Box:
In codrv pack #3 - February 2007 you showcase a piece titled water, frozen, where did you draw inspiration in this piece?Jak Hornblow:
"I moved my laptop and tablet in front of my bathroom sink and drew the lines on the left as the water poured out of the tap. It was interesting to see that the water doesn't flow straight down, it twists and turns and bulges whilst falling. I then filled a plastic bottle with water and put it in the freezer. After 4 hours I took it out, turned off the lights and placed a torch behind the bottle, and vectored the icey core that had started to form. I related it closely to the water I saw earlier in the day."Richard Box:
If you had to choose your best tool, what would it be?Jak Hornblow:
My cameras, definitely.
Richard Box:
Do you feel your holga cam assists or detracts from the aesthetic appeal of your shots?Jak Hornblow:
Well I like the way they look, but a lot of people don't it seems haha. I guess it depends on what your idea of "good" photography is.Richard Box:
Are there any plans for a future in art?Jak Hornblow:
After I've failed my A levels this year, I'm getting a job in a studio.Richard Box:
Have you got any final messages or shoutouts?Jak Hornblow:
Everyone listen to Mogwai.
